In Memoriam: Gaetano Aurelio Lanzarone

Dear colleagues,

I wish to share with you a sad new.
In the night between October 3 and 4 Professor Gaetano Aurelio Lanzarone (University of Insubria, Varese, Italy) passed away after a long illness.

For me, he has been my mentor, and a true friend.
For the scientific community, he has been a pioneer of Logic Programming and Artificial Intelligence in Italy. He wrote the first book on Prolog in Italian, which has been used as a textbook in many undergraduate courses.
His professional achievements have been several. He has recently founded the Department of Computer Science and Communication in Varese, of which he was presently the Head.

In my opinion, he has been a modern interpreter of the spirit of multidisciplinary Hellenistic philosophers, and a true philosopher also in everyday life, and in coping with illness: until the end he has been working, he has been following his students, in short he has been living as fully as ever.
I feel very sad about his death, but I will try to look ahead, so as to honor his memory.

Thank you for your attention
— Stefania
